Newtown Town Waters is  Free fishing along an excellent length of water on the left bank from the Bridge Street Bridge downstream to Canal side whilst a further 1000metres of river owned by Natural Resources Wales is downstream at the Penarth Water Treatment works with free fishing to NRW Rod licence holders

Where ? Off the B4568 at Llanllwchaiarn, (adjacent to the Sewage Works) Newtown, Powys SY16 3BA. Important note- The fishery is managed and free fishing of 1000mtrs (Natural Resources Wales) on the left bank of the river as you look downstream.

What’s being caught? Pike to 20lb, Chub to 6lb. dace and a few barbel. Brown trout and grayling to 2lb.

Tactics? Fish the feeder with Robin Red Pellets or a fish meal ground bait and luncheon meat whilst Caster over hemp and a truncheon waggler will give results. Trotting with maggot will provide reasonable nets of dace, Chub, Dace, Brown Trout. Mainly open stretch. Anglers are reminded of the bylaws relating to fishing in close proximity of weirs, legal methods and close seasons, which are applicable at this fishery.

There is also an angling club, Severnside & Newtown Angling Club, which has fishing rights for much of the river upstream from the Dolerw Park footbridge.
