Chub

Chub

Squalious cephalus

A member of the carp family, chub area river fish that will eat just about anything that they can fit into their large mouths.

Although Wales is not a noted part of the UK for chub fishing, they can be found in some rivers, canals and stillwaters in good numbers, notably the Wye, where they can grow to over 6lb (2.7kg) in weight.

Chub can also be found in the lower Taff, Severn, Rhymney and the Irfon and Ithon.

Chub have also been introduced into various stillwater coarse fisheries in Wales.
