River Severn Llanidloes – Free Stretch

800 yards of free fishing for rod license holders on the river Severn at Llanidloes, accessed off the A470 at the sewage works located to the east of the town. Brown Trout and Grayling. A lovely stretch of typical upper Severn water, with very good winter grayling fishing. Has both wooded and open sections, good pools and fast stickles.

Enjoys good hatches of fly and the trout can at times be free rising but late evenings provide the best opportunities during the summer months or at times of low water. There are also occasional Salmon present late in the season and those anglers fishing for Salmon must be in possession of the relevant migratory fish licence.

All legal methods can be used at this fishery. Trotting for winter Grayling can be effective.

Chest waders are advisable and wading is not particularly difficult but care should be taken in times of poor water clarity. Beware of high power cables at lower end of fishery. Beat length approx 800 metres.

There is a car park, go through the gate a few yards past the water treatment works. Access is then through the fields. Beat boundary’s are clearly marked.

Anglers should take note of new bylaws prohibiting bait types and times of year, these can be found here.
