Malpas brook near Bettws, Newport, holds a variety of fish species, including perch, chub, roach and brown trout. The brook is very small, but there are some deeper areas just north of the M4 near the Morgans and Woodstock ponds, and where it runs close to the canal. The venue is locally regarded as ‘free fishing’ with only a freshwater rod license required. National river coarse and game species closed seasons apply.
