The brook coming out of Roath Park lake holds a surprisingly diverse range of species, mostly chub and roach, with the odd perch, rudd, bream and wild brown trout. This urban venue is very small, so it is best fished in high or floodwater conditions, using maggots as bait. Be aware this area can become very busy with dog walkers and the public, so responsible angling is essential. Parking is available on local streets. Currently, fishing on the Roath brook is considered ‘free’ on Cardiff council land – all that is required to fish is the freshwater rod fishing licence.
