Fishing In Wales COVID-19 Guidance

Fishing In Wales COVID-19 Guidance

Coronavirus lock-down rules in Wales must be considered by anglers, these are different to England.

Maintaining physical and mental well-being is important, but if you are fishing in Wales please follow the Welsh Government coronavirus regulations and guidelines.

Following a two week ‘firebreak’ lock-down new COVID-19 regulations came into place from November 9th.

Key points for anglers in Wales are:

– No travel restrictions

Anglers residing in Wales will now be able to go fishing wherever they wish in Wales, subject to social distancing measures.

– Non-essential businesses can re-open

Fisheries, tackle shops and charter boats in Wales will be able to operate, subject to Welsh Government COVID-19 guidance.

– Two households can join to form an extended household ‘bubble’

You will be able to fish with somebody else (outside of your own household) if you form a ‘bubble’ with them.

– Up to 30 people can take part in outdoors activity

For anglers this means competitions can take place within Wales, with up to 30 participants. (Subject to social distancing rules)

– Travel restrictions will be in force between Wales and England

Due to the on-going coronavirus lock down in England (which ends 2nd December) travel is prohibited between Wales and England, and vice versa, unless you have a ‘reasonable excuse’. A reasonable excuse would be for work purposes or essential food shopping.

Therefore, anglers residing in Wales should not travel beyond the Welsh border into England to go fishing.

Likewise, anglers based in England should not travel into Wales to fish, in-line with the English lock down rules on non-essential travel.

This essentially rules out all travel between England and Wales for the purpose of recreational angling, including taking part in angling competitions or visiting for a fishing holiday.

– No international travel until at least 2nd December

In-line with the English national lock down, international travel to and from Wales is suspended, this means international anglers cannot visit Wales to stay on a fishing holiday during this time.

We remind anglers to be mindful of Welsh Government Covid-19 regulations.

Please read Visit Wales latest Coronavirus information which covers travel restrictions to Wales.

We would urge anyone that has any concerns over their own health to use the NHS Coronavirus Symptom Checker.
