Llantwit Major - Fishing in Wales

Llantwit Major

Llantwit Major has fishing from three bays, Llantwit Major, Tresillian and Stout, plus Stout Point. None is easy to fish.

All the marks are mainly rocky and full of boulders, as is the ground. These venues are not for the inexperienced or less agile.

It is sensible to stay well clear of the cliffs, as these can be unstable.

Great care must be taken when fishing Stout Point and Stout Bay, as it is very easy to get trapped. Local advice is to fish only a couple of hours or so either side of low tide.

Whereas occasional fishers are seen in Stout Bay, it is strongly recommended that it be avoided, being dangerous. The fishing is not claimed to be any better than that from Stout Point.

Fish include rays, cod, conger, whiting, bass, plaice, dogfish, pouting, rockling, smoothound.

In Llantwit Major follow the signs for the beach. Park above the beach in the car park (never leave valuables in a car here). Tresillian Bay is accessed by walking west along the cliff path. For Stout Point, walk east along the beach to the Point which is an obvious outcrop of rock. Stout Beach is on the eastern side of Stout Point, and is accessed by walking around the point.
