New Biggest Carp in Wales! Potential Welsh Record

On August 21st Peter Rees caught possibly an unofficial Welsh record carp from Llyn Cae Tŷ Nant Fishery – a stunning mirror carp named ‘Colls’ at a whopping 49lb 15oz.

The previous largest reported carp caught in Wales was ‘Ebeneezer’ at a top weight of 49lb from the Wharf in Cardiff.

Pete used Baitworks Atlantic ‘heat and pineapple’ yellow pop-ups to capture the fish, which fought like crazy.

A truly fantastic capture and Welsh carping history in the making.

Llyn Cae-Tŷ-Nant fishery exists in an area of the UK not noted for big carp and was initially stocked with 40 hand-picked fish currently weighing between 25lb and 40lb prior to opening in 2021.

Given Peters recent capture, the venue may well break through the magical 50lb barrier in the near future.

The 2.5 acre lake, situated between Tregaron and Lampeter in the Cambrian mountains of Mid Wales, is owned by Steve Weeks and his wife Sioned, who has captained the Wales Ladies’ Carp Team in the past.

The fishing is a syndicate water, with a limited number of spaces and a waiting list.

UPDATE

In November of 2025 the same fish was caught by Natalie May (bellow) at 50lb 8oz, making this the first recorded Welsh 50lb plus carp. After 5 years of running a limited syndicate, the venue has since announced that the current stock will be removed and re-homed in a few fisheries across England and Wales.

The revenue from these sales will go into complete re-fencing and restocking with young fish (C2 and C3). Also, the draining down of the lake will allow for maintenance checks, removal of hazardous snags, and any dead silt deposits.
