Join the Sea Angling Diary in 2026!
The Sea Angling Diary Project is a citizen science project where sea anglers in England and Wales log their fishing sessions and catches in an online diary. The fishing information helps national and local policy makers make better informed decisions on fisheries management. Running since 2016, itβs one of the longest running research projects on sea angling in the UK.
The online diary is an easy way to keep track of fishing sessions, catches, locations and more! Taking part is completely free.
By joining the project, you get:
π Free catch recording kit β waterproof notebook, fish ID guide and tape measure, posted directly to you once you start filling in your diary.
π Angling insights β record fishing sessions (location, tackle, weather and tide) and catches (length and numbers kept and returned). Get a personalised dashboard and an annual report of your fishing.
π Monthly prize draws β consistently updating your diary automatically enters you into the prize draw, with Β£100 of prizes given away every month.
Marine Recreational Fisheries are now embedded in UK fisheries management through the Fisheries Act 2020. If recreational sea angling is to be strongly represented in marine fishery management, there is a need for up-to-date information to be presented alongside data on other marine activities.
The Sea Angling Diary Project is carried out in partnership by government marine science organization Cefas (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) and research company Substance, and is funded by the English and Welsh governments.
Sign up today and join thousands of sea anglers already tracking their trips! To take part and find out more, visit www.seaangling.org.
