Situated down river from Pantygoitre Bridge, Trostre offers three quarters of a mile of right bank, prime lower Usk fishing. The river is wide for much of the beat but there is a good variation of water from inviting pools to quieter, flat areas of water through the middle section and a series riffles and runs at the lower end. This water has been lightly fished in recent years and, like most beats in the middle Usk, holds good numbers of brown trout, some of which are large. There are salmon holding pools also along this beat with plenty of variation for anglers with fly and spinner. There is a lovely fishing hut on this beat at the parking area. The hut will be locked and access inside the hut is kept private but day ticket anglers can use the veranda overlooking the river to shelter from weather or take a break from fishing. The wading here is good although the water can be quite deep at the top end. The wading is easier along the bottom half of the fishery and for those slightly nervous when wading, parts can be comfortably fly fished from the bank. Please note that access to this beat is around the edge of two fields. Low slung saloon cars and sports cars may have difficulty and are best left at the edge of the track, without blocking he access, in the first field.
