Osprey Fly Fishers Association: River Taff

Osprey Fly Fisher’s Association is an angling club based in the South Wales area, mostly around Pontypridd and Abercynon.

The club has some of the best water on the river Taff, with a stretch from Treforest industrial estate up to Abercynon. The river is a fair size here here, with many deep pools and runs.

It holds good wild brown trout, some very large. There have been specimens caught in excess of 6lb.

There is also a healthy stock of grayling, which provide sport in the winter months. These can reach nearly 3lb on the Taff.

Dry fly fishing in the spring can be excellent with fish rising to brook duns and large dark olives, with blue winged olives giving good evening sport in the summer.

The club allows fly fishing only.

Permits are available through the secretary and various outlets, see the website for details.
