Nant y Moch Reservoir - Fishing in Wales

Nant y Moch Reservoir

Nant y Moch Reservoir was created in 1964 and is 680 acres with wild brown trout.

The water is the classic ‘step and cast’ fishing the flies close to shore. The fish are free rising and respond well to traditional wet flies. Average size is around 10oz, although pound plus fish do crop up in the catches.

There are also perch present in good numbers, although these are generally very small.

The reservoir floods a part of the valley of the River Rheidol and its headwaters and derives its name from a stream, the Nant-y-Moch, which formerly flowed into the River Rheidol at this spot. The dam is about three miles north of the village of Ponterwyd.

Day and season tickets can be bought at the filling station in Ponterywd. Fly fishing only.
