An old phurnacite site, Abercwmboi Lake (aka the phurnie) was once a polluted dumping ground. Nature has returned to the lake, which is now clean andĀ rich in aquatic life. The lake holds carp, pike and rudd. There may be other coarse fish present. It is very shallow and very weedy in summer. The fishing is said locally to be ‘free’ – it is unknown who, if anyone, owns the angling rights.
