Dare Valley Trout Fishery – New Venue In Aberdare
A new trout fishery has just opened in Aberdare, in the heart of the South Wales Valleys.
Dare Valley Trout Fishery has ambitions to be the premier water for specimen sized trout in South Wales, minimum size is 3lb but the are many fish between 6lb and 14lb now in the lake, which holds a stock of at least 200 fish at any one time. Plenty of doubles have been stocked in recent weeks but have yet to be caught.
The venue is located in the Dare Valley Country Park, a stunning location at the head of the Dare Valley above Aberdare. Access is easy, with links to the nearby A465 and other major road networks.
The fishery is a well-established dam, of around 3 acres in size. Also known as Bwllfa reservoir, it was constructed over 100 years ago. Insect life and weed beds are therefore very well established and the venue is 30 feet deep, so water temperatures remain cool in the summer. As well as stocked rainbows and blues, there are some wild brown trout present which have been caught to double figures.
The fishery has toilet facilities, a cabin, secure on-site parking and an otter and poacher proof fence with CCTV. The lake will be run as a ‘big fish’ water on a catch and keep basis; Fish to 20lb plus will be stocked in future. There are plans for breakfast facilities in a lakeside catering area in near future, as well as tackle hire, fishing lessons and corporate events.
Current pricing details and further information can be found on the fishery website: www.darevalleytroutfishery.co.uk

There is also a Facebook Page for the fishery.
Other amenities can be found in the adjacent Dare Valley country park, including catering, nature trails and the brand-new Gravity Family Bike Park. Accommodation is also available in the park, with on-site rooms, camping and motorhome facilities.
Scenery at the venue is idyllic and the fishing is fantastic, so why not give it a try?
