Grwyne Fawr Reservoir - Fishing in Wales
Gwyrne fawr reservoir fishing Wales

Grwyne Fawr Reservoir

Located in the Black Mountains of the eastern Brecon Beacons, Grwyne Fawr Reservoir is a very steep sided water supply reservoir of around 30 acres.

It is accessed along a narrow track, with a walk of over a mile required from the nearest parking spot. The track is very rough and can only be attempted by a high clearance 4×4 vehicle.

Recent years have seen water levels dropped, for dam maintenance. So great care must be taken on the sloping unstable banks.

The lake holds wild brown trout, ranging from 8oz to 2lb. The fishing is controlled by the Glanusk Estate, who are known to issue day tickets for fly fishing.

For further information contact Harry at Glanusk Estate.

As with most wild trout lakes in Wales, a close season applies, in this case 20th March to 30th September.
