Dabs - Fishing in Wales

Dabs

Dabs

Limanda limanda

Dab are a common flatfish around Wales. They will live over sandy, muddy and to a lesser extend shingle. Dab are a small fish and one approaching a pound is a very good catch from the shore.

They are, however, numerous and good to eat, making them worth fishing for. Dab feed mostly on marine worms and small crustaceans, prawns and molluscs so it best to use worm or squid. Burry port is a noted dab mark.

All flatfish tend to be found on sandy beaches, over light ground and in estuaries, of which we have an abundance in Wales.
