Shell Island, also known as Mochras, has a rocky beach with odd patches of sand. The River Artro enters at the north end, forming a deepish channel. It is part of a camping site and fees may be payable.

Fish include bass, flounders, eels, dabs, dogfish, ray, mackerel, whiting, gurnard, plaice, garfish, mullet, turbot.

Take the A496 to Llanbedr. On the south side of the bridge in the village centre is a side road signposted for the Railway Station and Shell Island. Follow the signs. The final road access to the island is liable to flood at high tides, so heed any warning signs.
