The Fishing Passport: River Usk (Glan-y-Cafn) - Fishing in Wales

The Fishing Passport: River Usk (Glan-y-Cafn)

Set in impressive scenery framed by the Sugar Loaf and Blorenge mountains, Glan-y-Cafn is just over a mile of single and double bank Usk fishing just upstream of Abergavenny.

The River Usk at Glan-y-Cafn offers excellent salmon fishing prospects. The beat also holds an excellent head of trout that average around 1lb and run to much bigger.

The streamy water at the top of the beat and around the islands will suit daytime trout fishing, especially during spring olive hatches, while the extensive glide that forms the lower half of the beat fishes particularly well in spring or on summer evenings, or whenever there is a hatch of fly.

The riverbed is mostly gravel and the beat is good for those requiring easier fishing access. Parking is less than 50m from the river.
