The lake is also stocked a few times a year with brown trout fingerlings, which grow on to a good size in the lake thanks to the rich invertebrate life. Trout over 2lb are common and fish from 3lb to 4lb are caught each season. For a Welsh lake this is a very good average.

Gwyddior is accessed through rough forestry tracks and involves crossing a ford, so a 4×4 vehicle is advisable in wet weather.
