The water depth ranges from 6 ft to 15 ft and in the colder months sinking line tactics are the order of the day. The fact that the lake is spring-fed means that even in extreme drought conditions, Hayscastle held its water level well and fishing was consistently good. There is a lodge at the fishery which provides shelter from any unpleasant weather. It houses toilet facilities as well as tables and chairs.
