Aberystwyth Angling Association: River Rheidol

Aberystwyth Angling Association has fishing on the River Rheidol. The River Rheidol fishing is 16 miles of both banks from the sea to from the sea to the Rheidol mines apart from two stretches on the north bank.

With around forty recognised pools the river is one of Wales’ premier salmon and sewin (sea trout) fisheries with double-figure specimens of both species being caught on a regular basis. It also holds a few wild brown trout.

The flow of the river is largely governed by a hydroelectric scheme which can cause the river level to rise very quickly and unexpectedly. The frequency of these water releases has reduced in the last couple of seasons. Whilst this can be problematic if night fishing, it does also mean that the river can go into spate even on a dry summers day.
