Llyn Rhosgoch is a short walk up from the road from Blaenmelindwr. It sits in a treeless hollow surrounded by hills covered in moorland grasses and bilberry bushes. At 8 acres a nice intimate size. It is very shallow, with gravelly shores where wild fish can spawn. In addition it is stocked lightly with brown trout through the season; some large fish are present here to 6lb. The llyn is a pleasant place to fish, with easy back casting and wading all-round which suits the ‘walk and cast’ fishing style well. The fish can often be found along the earth dam wall with its drop off, or if there is an insect hatch rising quite freely in the shallows. It should be noted that with the lake being only 4ft to 6ft deep at most it has suffered in the very hot summers and the population of trout now depends mostly on stocking.
