Llyn Frongoch is a beautiful 20 acre lake surrounded by rolling green hills. It is easily accessible by car, having a narrow road and parking areas around its west bank. Frongoch was stocked with Loch Leven brown trout in the early 1900’s. That strain still thrives today, with butter gold wild brownies from 8oz to 1lb being abundant. In addition the lake is stocked several times a year with rainbow and blue trout – these grow on well, becoming razor finned fighting machines that can strip your fly line off the reel in seconds. In recent years roach have appeared, no doubt an illegal introduction. They are providing food for the larger trout. There is also now an invasive pond weed which anglers should take care not to spread to the other lakes. The lake is fly fishing only. There are caravans for hire from the Association on the lakeside – the perfect place for a fishing holiday. Fishing on Frongoch is reserved for caravan occupiers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
