Lluest Wen reservoir (Maerdy reservoir) is a 20 acre lake in the remote upper Rhondda Fach valley above Maerdy. It is very deep with steep sides in places. The reservoir holds pike, perch and a few wild brown trout. There is no road access, it is a 2 mile walk to the lake banks. It is Welsh Water owned. Fishing is currently regard locally as being ‘free’ as long as a freshwater rod licence is held. Maerdy and Ferndale Angling Club one had stocked brown and rainbow trout fishing on Lluest Wen, but the club folded about 15 years ago. All fish present are now wild. There is also Castell Nos reservoir, a much smaller lake about 1.5 miles from the Lluest Wen. This holds the same species as the top reservoir. Image below: Castell Nos reservoir
