Bull-huss

The bull-huss is a dogfish on steroids, sometimes called the greater spotted dogfish. Unlike its small cousin it’s not regarded as a nuisance fish – it grows to much larger sizes and fights well – 5 foot and nearly 20lb in exceptional cases. Most Welsh caught bull huss are between 4lb and 10lb.  

Bull huss tend to be nocturnal, so evening or dawn are good times. They generally prefer deeper water and rockier ground, but it will move into quite shallow water to feed if food is available there. They take fish baits, crab and squid well.

There are plenty of good shore marks for bull-huss all over Wales, but the best way to target them is use a charter boat.
