Turbot

Scophthalmus maximus 

The turbot is a fairly large flatfish, known for being a delicious food-fish.

They are found all over Welsh coasts, but the distribution is patchy. Like most flatfish they prefer sandy beach marks and light ground. They prefer water with clarity and take fish baits such as mackerel and sandeel readily. Turbot are often quite close in, often at low water and in low light conditions. Marks to try include Borth in Cardigan bay and Southerndown, Glamorgan coast. 

All flatfish tend to be found on sandy beaches, over light ground and in estuaries, of which we have an abundance in Wales.
