The Fishing Passport: River Wye (Sheephouse) - Fishing in Wales

The Fishing Passport: River Wye (Sheephouse)

Approximately 2 miles of fishing on the middle Wye near Hay-on-Wye.

The fishery is mostly double bank although all the access is from the true left (north) bank. In an area of the river that is best known for its spring salmon fishing, Sheephouse and Clyro Court also offer anglers some first class coarse fishing for the chub, barbel and perch. The record Wye pike of 38lbs came from this part of the river.

The top half of the beat is quite shallow and fast flowing over the shingle. The lower reaches are a mixture of gravel and bedrock with varying degrees of wading difficulty.

Access to the beat is excellent allowing anglers to park in 2 spots adjacent to the river. Self-catering accommodation is also available nearby at Nethouse Cottage 01666 575 050 / 07919 103 933 www.haynethouse.co.uk
