Whiteford Sands, also known as Whiteford Burrows, are a very difficult stretch of coastline. They are a mixture of sand and rock, fishing onto similar. It has very dangerous undertows and rip tides. It is strongly advised that it only be fished at high tide with no wading. The sands were formerly part of an artillery range, so beware of unexploded shells, which are occasionally discovered. Fish include smoothound, bass, mackerel, flatfish, whiting, codling, garfish, dogfish, wrasse, conger, bream, trigger fish, mullet, pollack, plaice. Take the road to Fairy Hill, signposted off the A4118, and from there follow the Llangennith signs. From this road, take the lane to Llanmadog (Llanmadoc). Parking is available here, followed by a gentle walk to the sands.
