Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association: Cantref Reservoir

Cantref Reservoir is the middle reservoir on the A470 between Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon. This 42 acre water holds a good population of wild brown trout which average about 10oz and run to 2lb in weight.

It is sometimes stocked a few times a year with rainbow trout by the Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association, who control the fishing.

Fishing is by fly only. Day tickets are no longer sold, fishing is for MTAA members, cost is £65 a year with no waiting list.

No rainbow trout stocking has taken place in 2023, so most of the fish are wild brown trout currently. As such, the season will be closing on 17th October in 2023.
